New Project! Second test

Mounting and stabilizing a DSLR camera in a car are difficult, especially setting the camera pointing to the back. Many problems have appeared, for example:

~use metal or wood for the car seat "tripod";
~the stability of the back seat in the car;
~the connection between the camera's body and the car seat;
~the angle of the camera's view;
~the camera's position;
~how to ensure the infrared signal from the remote control at the front seat can effectively delivers the receiver on the camera's body, and etc.....

Moreover, making a series of images without looking through the viewfinder could be very difficult to compose the imagery that you want it to be. It is pretty much based on the situations that happen during the shooting time. In fact, I can say that it is luck without any doubt. But the preparation of the entire project must be the most important issue, because none of the photographer can take a good picture without a charged battery, which means a well preparation is essential.

I drilled two holes so that the poles of the headrest can go through the wood. Also, I used a portable clamp to hook up the camera with a piece of wood. But the DSLR camera is too heavy, the plastic ball head on the portable clamp has not enough strength to stabilize the camera. The camera would be shaken by my car's every movement. So, I much use the steel ball head to support the heavy camera.

The infrared receiver is facing backward, as well as the lens. In order to control the shutter effectively, I set a mirror upon the camera to reflect the infrared signal to the receiver on the camera at boot. Yet, the mirror angle might is not accurate, the signal sometime cannot be transmitted. perhaps add one more mirror at the boot could solve it.

The focal length and object distance (focus point) are the others technical difficulties that I have to solve it out. There is no absolutely right focal length and focus point in this project, because the car behind me could stop a little bit closer to my car or stand away from me. Thus, I need to do some experiments on it. But I could say that the car distance appearing in above images seem like much farther than when I look at the central mirror. My camera's lens was set as 18mm (DX format), I realize those images maybe are too wide, should change the focal length between 28-35.

I will try to figure out the right exposure and the reflection on the windscreen in next test.
