Copying is an aesthetics. How you copy something and produce it in your own way is the main key, and I believe everyone in this planet is copying something.
The story of the twin Gundam is a extremely good example. I assume everyone knows Gundam is Japanese cartoon and I won't explain any more. Also, I expect everyone China is the heaven of copying, or knockoff if you like. It is easily understood a knockoff iPad would have its product value and can possibly be purchased by the people who cannot afford the real iPad. But in the case of the knockoff Gundam, I didn't see any value of making the nastiest duplicated Chinese Gundam.
