In truth, The British Museum is one of the most visited museum in the world. This is my first time being a museum which is super crowded. While travelling in the city of London, it's hardly to find a local on the streets and of course in the tube. One day, I was looking for a supermarket and wanting to ask someone who can point it out to me. I approached 10 people consecutively, none of them is local. In The British Museum the situation is the same. Undoubtedly, you would say that is because the museum is tourist place. Right! I remember in the National Gallery in the Federation Square Australia, there were not so much tourists in the gallery, rather, local people visit is the main. I'm not saying Londoners are less passion then Melbourners in terms of visiting museum. Just trying to point out that the amount of foreigners is large enough to submerge The British Museum.
Before visiting this museum, I had a thought that it wasn't right the British stole and robbed a wide range the treasures from other countries during the colonisation. But when I looked at the treasures, my initial thought was gone. If the precious items haven't been stolen, those items would have probably been smuggled out to the black market. And most importantly, the museum is free entry, which means that these precious collections belong to the public.
